After losing Malik Davis to a serious hip injury, Dallas added a veteran running back to take his place. He steps in as the third running back on the team.
Davis had the No. 2 job behind Javonte Williams before the injury, holding on to that spot through training camp as second-year back
Jaydon Blue of Texas competed against him. Davis’ injury requires surgery.
The Cowboys waived Blue at the end of the preseason and claimed Emari Demercado off waivers from Kansas City. Demercado will fill the role behind Williams in Sunday’s season opener at the New York Giants. Dallas also has fullback Hunter Luepke.

Cowboys head coach Brian Schottenheimer has hinted that the team has indeed explored several different plans for the defensive in-helmet receiver, but he confirmed on Friday that fourth-year linebacker DeMarvion Overshown will be taking the bulk of the job of relaying Parker’s plays on the field.
“It’s a process. Will there be multiple guys doing it? With George Pickens playing on the franchise tag, paying Ryan Flournoy means that the Cowboys are soon to be expecting big things from the small school receiver.
I like the structure of Ryan Flournoy’s contract because it gives the Cowboys options next offseason. His 2027 base salary is just $1.5 million, with a $500,000 roster bonus and $1.25 million in remaining signing-bonus proration.
If Dallas traded him before paying that roster bonus, the Cowboys would save roughly $2 million against the cap while the team trading for him gets a productive receiver on a cheap contract.
The cap savings wouldn’t pay for a new George Pickens contract, but I don’t want you to think that is the point. If Ryan Flournoy takes another step forward in 2026, Dallas could have a legitimate trade asset.

The 24th-overall pick in 2015 by Arizona, Humphries was with the Cardinals through 2023. He became a full-time starter in 2016 and never looked back, thought he did struggles with injuries at times. He moved from right tackle to left in 2017, where he remained for the duration of his Arizona run.
