Conor McGregor is confident he’s going to remind the combat sports world of who he is.
This past Saturday, UFC CEO Dana White announced that McGregor is set to return from a five-year layoff to face former featherweight and ‘BMF’ champion Max Holloway in a rematch at UFC 329. The welterweight headliner caps off the July 11 numbered event at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas.
“The Notorious” makes his first appearance since a gruesome leg injury suffered in his stoppage loss to Dustin Poirier at UFC 264 in July
2021, and McGregor is ready to put on a show for the fans, as he stated on social media.
“Thank you for all the love, support, and encouragement over the last few days, people,” McGregor wrote on Instagram. I am feeling very energized entering intense training camp because of it! I am very grateful for the team I have around me. My coaches and training partners, we are all fully tuned in for the challenge at hand and it is a glorious time in our gym! …
“I am better than ever, and I relish the opportunity to once again show my mastery in martial arts to the world.”
McGregor defeated Holloway in their first meeting nearly 13 years ago at UFC Fight Night 26. Now, he seeks his first combat sports victory in over six years.
Holloway looks to get back in the win column himself following a lopsided decision loss to new-BMF champ Charles Oliveira at UFC 327 in March.
