Whenever Manuel Neuer has a good game, the topic of participating in the upcoming 2026 World Cup for the German national team is brought up. Ergo, when Neuer made an outstanding 9 saves to help Bayern Munich triumph over Real Madrid in the Bernabeu 2-1, marking the first time in around 25 years the Bavarians had beaten their Spanish rivals, he was again asked the same question.
Then again, Neuer has had many good performances this season and been fielded the World Cup question many, many times. Therefore,
as captured by German reporter Kerry Hau, he had no time for it on the night: “Everything to that topic has already been said. What is important now is the rest of the season at Bayern.”
But teammate Aleksandar Pavlović is not tired of the topic. Asked if he would like to play with Manuel Neuer at the World Cup, as again captured by Kerry Hau, the Germany midfielder had this to say: “Yes, absolutely. I would never say no to [playing alongside] Manu.”
Interestingly, the duo have only played together once on the international level, when Pavlović made his international debut in a friendly against Ukraine ahead of the 2024 European Championship. Of course, Neuer retired after the tournament. If he were to return for the World Cup, it would see the duo reunite on the international stage one last time.
Having written that, it seems very unlikely to happen and Neuer seems to have written the possibility off.
