UFC Vancouver will be headlined by the middleweight main event between top contenders Reinier de Ridder and Anthony Hernandez, with the winner moving on to compete for the 185-pound title.
But the Oct. 18 fight card (see it here
) was originally expected to showcase a welterweight battle pitting Sean Brady against Ian Garry, which like De Ridder vs. Hernandez, carries serious title implications for late 2025.Unfortunately, “The Future” is stuck in the past.
“So I got a call from my manager right around
International Fight Week, so at the end of June timeframe about me and Ian fighting in Chicago [at UFC 319],” Brady said in his Instagram stories. “I said yes, didn’t hear anything for weeks. I’m assuming UFC moved on. Recently, they hit us up and said me and Ian, main event in Vancouver. I said yes immediately. Yes, let’s go. I’ve been wanting to fight since May and these are the only ones I’ve been offered. I said yes twice.”
“Now, I don’t know why, Ian’s f*cking dragging his feet or whatever he was doing and now they put in [Reinier de Ridder] and ‘Fluffy’ [Anthony Hernandez]. Now once again we’re sitting and waiting,” Brady continued. “So thanks Ian, just lost another main event because of you, my man.”
Brady has been trying to fight Garry for nearly a year.
As of this writing, Brady (18-1) is currently ranked four spots above Garry (16-1) at No. 2 in the official welterweight rankings, right behind former champion Belal Muhammad. Depending on the recovery timeline of Shavkat Rakhmonov, Brady may need one more fight while the promotion pits Jack Della Maddalena against Islam Makhachev for the 170-pound belt.
Garry has yet to respond to Brady’s latest comments.
