What is the story about?
Hello
folks and welcome to the weekend! The Mariners are rolling and the vibes are good — what more could you want? Some news from around the league, mayhaps? We’ve got you.
In Mariners news…
- The Mariners are interested in re-signing first baseman Josh Naylor to an extension, according to Jerry Dipoto in a recent interview. He said, however, that it’s difficult to have these conversations during a playoff chase, so the team hasn’t broached the subject with his camp yet.
Around the league…
- The Astros took yet another blow with right-hander Lance McCullers, Jr. landing on the injured list due to right hand soreness.
- The Tigers are holding their breath after lefty ace Tarik Skubal departed yesterday’s start with side tightness. He is set to undergo imaging soon.
- Walker Buehler was called up by the Phillies, and he did not have a positive review for the robo ump system in the minors.
- Former Astros starter José Urquidy was activated off the IL by the Tigers, his first time on an active roster since 2023.
- Aaron Judge hit another homer, giving him 362 for his career, which puts him alone in fourth place for all-time Yankee dingers. It will be a while before he passes Lou Gehrig (493) and Mickey Mantle (536), and it’s likely he never passes Babe Ruth (659).
- Former Red Sox pitcher Austin Maddox was arrested during a sting operation to catch sexual predators.
- Jay Jaffe at Fangraphs wrote about the uneven season for Mookie Betts, which is starting to turn around just in time for the postseason.
- The WAR difference between Aaron Judge and Cal Raleigh is fairly small, historically. Davy Andrews at Fangraphs dove into the numbers.
- Oh, the Dodgers.
