Michigan Wolverines forward Yaxel Lendeborg was selected by the Golden State Warriors with the 11th pick in the first round of the 2026 NBA Draft in New York on Tuesday.
Lendeborg’s career path has been far from conventional, going from junior college just a few years ago to national superstardom at Michigan, and now, fulfilling his dream of reaching the NBA.
Unlike many
top NBA prospects who were previously highly-touted high school recruits, Lendeborg built his reputation through continuous development, determination and improvement. After beginning his journey as an under-the-radar prospect, Lendeborg’s career reached new heights in his only campaign at Michigan, and now he takes his talents to the professional level.
Lendeborg emerged as one of the nation’s most complete players with the Wolverines, becoming the centerpiece of a national championship-winning team while also making history as just the sixth Wolverine to win Big Ten Player of the Year. As far as individual seasons go, it doesn’t get much better than what he was able to accomplish in Ann Arbor.
Now, Lendeborg will try to make an instant impact in the NBA. The 6-foot-9, 240-pounder has everything it takes to find success at the next level. From athleticism and versatility to speed and strength, Lendeborg has proven he’s ready for the pros. His unique skillset should provide an opportunity for him to contribute during his rookie season.
Lendeborg put up solid numbers at Michigan, scoring a team-high 15.1 points and 6.8 rebounds, while shooting a career-best 37.2 percent from three-point range. But scouts were drawn to more than just his statistics, as his defensive versatility, rebounding prowess and improving perimeter shot helped him get on the radars of NBA scouts even before his time at Michigan.
While some draft picks are viewed as long-term projects, Lendeborg already has years of experience and a proven track record of growth and resilience. His meteoric rise from being a virtually unknown high school recruit to a unanimous All-American with the Wolverines, Lendeborg has demonstrated he has all the potential to become an impactful NBA player.
