For the second time this summer the Portland Trail Blazers are saying goodbye to a coach who is heading for the Windy City. Two months ago, former head coach Tiago Splitter accepted the lead position with the Chicago Bulls. Today Michael Scotto of HoopsHype indicates that assistant coach (and head of the G League’s Rip City Remix) Jonah Herscu will follow Splitter to become part of his coaching staff.
Herscu joined the Blazers in 2022 under then-head-coach Chauncey Billups after stints with the Sacramento
Kings and the Los Angeles Lakers as an assistant and a scout. Herscu became head coach of the Remix in June, 2025, leading them to a 19-17 record and the first-ever playoffs berth in franchise history last season.
Scotto also reports that assistant coaches Rex Kalamian and Blake Ahearn will be joining Splitter’s staff in Chicago.
