After months of speculation and rumors, Liverpool has reportedly pulled off one of the biggest transfers of the summer.
According to Sky Germany journalist Florian Plettenberg, Bradley Barcola is set to join the Reds from Paris Saint-Germain in a massive deal, as a full verbal agreement has been reached between Liverpool and PSG for a package worth €135-€140 million, including add-ons. There were reports earlier this summer that PSG rejected a previous proposal that amounted to €115 million. Regardless,
Plettenberg’s report indicates that the deal is effectively done, with only the final formalities remaining.
Barcola had reportedly agreed personal terms with Liverpool several weeks ago, suggesting that negotiations over the player’s contract were completed well before the clubs finalized the transfer fee.
The remaining steps are expected to be Barcola completing his medical and signing his contract with Liverpool.
The 23-year-old France international has developed into one of the most dangerous young attackers in European football since joining PSG from Lyon. His combination of pace, dribbling ability, movement and finishing has made him a major part of PSG’s attack, while his performances have also established him as an important player for the French national team.
Barcola will join a roster full of young attackers, including former Bayer Leverkusen ace and Germany international Florian Wirtz, who will be looking to make a mark this season.
From a Bayern Munich standpoint, this move affects two direct competitors for the Champions League crown. Even with the sale of Barcola, PSG is overflowing with talent, so the loss of Barcola is just a minor sting to the defending champions. For Liverpool, it is another attempt to throw talent as a problem that could be part scheme, part mentality, part poor planning.
