The nice part about the Jays being in the World Series is everybody I talk to wants to talk baseball. It is one of the few topics I don’t mind talking to strangers about.
I’d be ok if we win by half a dozen
or so again tonight. Yesterday it was a 22-year-old making his first World Series start; today, it is a 34-year-old making his first World Series start.
The great thing about baseball is how often you get to see something that has never happened before. there have been 24 Grand Slams in World Series history, but Addison’s was the first pinch-hit Grand Slam. That he did it off a lefty made it that much better.
John Schneider said, after the game, that part of his reason to bring Addison into the game was to get a lefty for Vlad to hit against. And it worked out so much better than he could have hoped.
The life of a young baseball player:
I loved hearing Daulton Varsho tell the press that he ‘tries to hit a ground ball back at the pitcher’. I used to tell kids playing ball to try to hit it up the middle. It helped to get them to ‘barrel it up’. It’s nice to hear that the simple stuff you tell kids in little continues to work, right up to the majors. I used to tell them to try to hit the top of the ball, cause it seemed to get them to focus on the ball better.
This is cool too, though fouling off balls which are inches off the plate, or well above the zone, isn’t great. But extending at-bats is great.
Said another way:
I’m imagining the whole team had a sleep over at Davis’ place last night:
Joe Siddall turns 58 today.
Joe played 73 MLB games with the Expos, Marlins and Tigers. And he’s a much better commentator than Gregg Zaun was.
Happy Birthday, Joe.
This surprised me:
A Grand Slam and he’s a new daddy:
