The USMNT have been steadily improving lately, and now they’ve risen in the ranking. Yesterday, the November 2025 FIFA world rankings were released, and the USMNT rose two spots to 14th in the world.
The
USMNT have won three straight matches since the last rankings, which came during the October international window. They gained 8.39 points, which was enough to move them past archrivals Mexico and Uruguay, who they thrashed 5-1 on Tuesday night.
The biggest story of the November rankings is that they are expected to help form the pots for the upcoming World Cup draw on December 5th. As a co-host, the USMNT will be seeded in Pot 1 for the draw. Joining them, Mexico, and Canada in the seeded pot presumably would be the top 9 teams in the rankings: Spain, Argentina, France, England, Brazil, Portugal, the Netherlands, Belgium, and Germany. Those pots are expected to be confirmed in the next few days.
The USA, by moving ahead of Mexico (15th) into 14th, are the highest ranked team in Concacaf. Fellow co-hosts Canada moved up a place to 27th in the world, followed by Panama at 30th. Costa Rica dropped to 49th as they failed to qualify for the World Cup. Curaçao (82nd) and Haiti (84th) will be in the field of 48 at the World Cup, while Jamaica (70th) and Suriname (123rd) still have hope to qualify via the inter-confederation playoff.
The USMNT are expected to have some heavy hitters lined up for the final four matches before the World Cup takes flight in June. Early reports are that the team will face Portugal (5th) and Belgium (8th) in March, while The Athletic’s Henry Bushnell and Paul Tenorio report that Germany (9th) is expected to be the send-off opponent in a match in Chicago, with another pre-World Cup friendly to be determined based on the World Cup draw. If those matches are finalized, the USMNT will have some formidable tests before competing in the world’s biggest tournament.
