Duke’s non-conference schedule has been officially released, and, as usual, Jon Scheyer is putting his team through a gauntlet. Let’s take a look.
Things open with Countdown to Craziness on Oct 3rd, then former Scheyer assistant Evan Bradds brings Belmont to Cameron for an exhibition (Oct 8), followed by a visit from Tennessee (Oct 20) for the second exhibition.
Duke then flies out to Lawrence to close out the pre-season with the Jayhawks (Oct 25).
The regular season opens with Army and Coastal Carolina
dropping by Cameron on Nov 2 and Nov 5 respectively, then straight into the fire, with Michigan State in Chicago on Nov 10.
Then it’s two Illinois teams visiting, with SIU-Edwardsville and Illinois visiting Cameron on Nov 13 and 17.
Then it’s Washington State (Nov 21) in California, followed by UConn in Las Vegas (Nov 25) and Florida at Florida (Dec 1) for the ACC/SEC Challenge.
The Brotherhood Run comes on Dec 4 with Tommy Amaker’s Harvard, then it’s off to the Garden to play Georgia on Dec 8.
Campbell and Grambling State are the holiday games (Dec 15/17), before the Blue Devils get a rematch with Texas Tech (Dec 21). Like the Georgia game, that will also be in the Garden.
Finally, the Devils will face Gonzaga in Detroit on Feb 20 for the traditional, late-season, out-of-conference test.
As Danny Hurley pointed out recently, buy games are less desirable than they used to be, because you have to scoop up more NIL money where you can. Even given that, Scheyer continues to give fans their money’s worth. This will be another challenging schedule.
