Triple-A: Norfolk Tides 11, Charlotte Knights (CWS) 10
It was a real barn burner down in Charlotte last night. The Tides offense scored 11 runs on 13 hits without a single walk. The secret to their success? Dingers. Seven Tides went deep, including the rehabbing Jackson Holliday. He was joined by Johnathan Rodríguez, Christian Encarnacion-Strand, José Barrero, Sam Huff, Creed Willems, and Jud Fabian. The only batter in the starting lineup without a hit was rehabbing Heston Kjerstad.
Starting pitcher Nestor German had a rough night, allowing six runs in four
innings. He gave up a pair of home runs, and five of his six hits went for extra bases. Relief pitcher Gerald Ogando poured gas on the fire with a four-run seventh. It’s a good thing the offense scored 11 runs.
Double-A: Chesapeake Baysox 8, Akron RubberDucks (CLE) 6
Starting pitcher Christian Herberholz retired nine of the first ten batters he faced, but was pulled after letting the first two batters reach in the fourth. His relief, Yaqui Rivera, did let an inherited runner score on a groundout but was otherwise fantastic. In four innings, Rivera retired all 12 batters he faced and struck out four. His ERA on the season is 2.45.
Cohen Achen followed Rivera and tried to ruin the vibes by giving up four runs, but thankfully, the offense had them covered. The Baysox got two runs in the third on an RBI double from Anderson De Los Santos and a single by Aron Estrada. They pulled away in the sixth inning with help from the RubberDucks, who made three errors and a wild pitch. Ethan Anderson went deep in the inning, his fifth.
Griff O’Ferrall reached base three times as the leadoff batter with a single and two walks. De Los Santos had three hits.
High-A: Frederick Keys 6, Hudson Valley Renegades (NYY) 3
It was Joseph Dzierwa night for the Keys, and he was pretty good. Through four innings, he allowed two hits and a walk, but no runs. But in the fifth, he gave up three singles, which resulted in two runs scored. He struck out six and picked up the win.
The Keys got on the board in the second when Elis Cuevas tripled and scored on a single from Colin Yeaman. Nobody tell me if his last name isn’t pronounced Yeah Man. It was a two-hit day for both Cuevas and Yeaman. They added two more in the fifth thanks to RBI singles from Ike Irish and Ryan Stafford. A three-run seventh inning topped things off.
Low-A: Fayetteville Woodpeckers (HOU) 9, Delmarva Shorebirds 5
Catcher Andrés Nolaya knocked in four of the Tides’ five runs with an RBI single and a three-run homer. He also made two of the team’s five errors. DJ Layton reached base twice on a single and a walk. Joshua Liranzo, Félix Amparo, and Junior Aybar also had multi-hit games.
Starting pitcher Brayan Orrantia walked six batters in 3.2 innings but did not give up a hit.
