The FC Bayern Frauen will finally have their make-up match against SV Werder Bremen.
Originally scheduled in February the week of the Bayern Munich men’s 3-0 road win over SV Werder Bremen, the match was among many delayed due to weather issues. Now, the Frauen have already confirmed the Bundesliga title and this match is just an appetizer ahead of the second leg of the UEFA Women’s Champions League semifinal against FC Barcelona.
Like Bayern, Bremen is still in the same position in the table now as
it was then — sixth. Here’s what Bayern had to say about their opponents back then.
“Bremen have shown throughout the season they’re serious opponents who are very well-organized in terms of tactics,” Bayern’s Barbara Dunst said in pre-match comments from February captured by the club website. “They act as a unit and have high individual quality in their squad. [Head coach Friederike] Fritzy Kromp has already achieved a lot.”
Added Bayern coach José Barcala: “We expect a demanding game. Bremen are a team with clear solutions to beat the high press, they are aggressive, very direct in attack and their structure makes them difficult to press consistently.”
The pressure is off now, though. The Bavarians will hope to come out of this one maintaining match fitness and staying healthy.
Prediction: Bayern wins, 3-1. And it’s on to Barcelona.
It’s Bayern time.
