Jack Weisenburger made the start for Syracuse and immediately put them in a 5-0 hole before the bats even had a chance to come up to the plate. Nick Morabito led off the game on Syracuse’s side with a home run, his ninth of the year, but the Woosox were able to keep Syracuse off-balance and off the board for the majority of the game, and though they woke up a bit in the eighth on a Jorge Polanco homer, it was too little, too late.

Binghamton came into this one still looking for their first win in the month of July, but that’ll have to wait until their next series, as the Rumble Ponies not only failed to win, but they failed to score. The team managed just a single hit and worked four unintentional walks. It’s too bad, because Jonathan Santucci threw a very solid game following his rain-shortened outing that limited him to just two innings last Tuesday. The left-hander allowed two runs over six innings, scattering 2 hits, walking 4, and striking out 10, but was tagged with his sixth loss of the season.

St. Lucie finally won a game! The team had a nine-game losing streak going but finally snapped it thanks to some late inning heroics. Emilio Obispo wasn’t too bad early on, allowing just a single unearned run, but the rehabbing Calvin Ziegler gave up three runs in the fourth, recording just a single out, putting St. Lucie behind the eight-ball. Coming into the seventh, down 5-1, Branny De Oleo and Jack Scanlon made it closer with a solo homer and RBI double, respectively, making it a 5-3 ballgame. In the eighth, the wheels came off for the Tarpon bullpen and St. Lucie scored a whopping 7 runs, one run fewer than they scored in the collective prior five games against Tampa (8 runs total).
