Richard Wesley and Kasi Currie are set to be teammates again.
Currie plans to head to the Forty Acres to join Wesley, his former high school teammate in California, after committing to the Texas Longhorns on Thursday in an announcement on the CBS Sports College Football YouTube channel, choosing the Horns over the Georgia Bulldogs, Ohio State Buckeyes, and Oregon Ducks in a no-nonsense decision.
“I just felt like they really took care of my family,” Currie said. “It just felt like home.”
The 6’4.5,
313-pounder from Chatsworth (Calif.) Sierra Canyon took an official visit to Athens at the end of May and to Austin last weekend before deciding to make his pledge ahead of trips planned to Eugene and Columbus.
Currie held 20 total offers, including Arizona State, Cal, Florida State, LSU, Nebraska, Oklahoma, Ole Miss, Tennessee, Texas A&M, USC, and Washington, among others.
The Longhorns officially entered Currie’s recruitment last June before getting him on campus for the Junior Day in mid-January and for another visit at the beginning of spring practice.
An intriguing two-way prospect who could play right tackle or defensive tackle in college, Currie is a consensus four-star prospect ranked as the No. 60 player overall and the No. 6 defensive lineman, according to the 247Sports Composite rankings.
Currie is the 13th pledge for Texas in the 2027 recruiting class, which now ranks No. 17 nationally, and becomes the first defensive line commit in the cycle and the second highest-ranked prospect behind wide receiver Easton Royal.
