Bayern Munich’s financial austerity in recent years has been even more pronounced than usual. Following the big spending spree in 2022, cuts have been made, spending has been reduced and the wage bill has gone down. It got to the point that Bayern made a net profit in the 2025 summer transfer window. The club officials repeatedly emphasized that costs had gotten too high and would have placed the club in a precarious financial position.
But perhaps that is not the only reason the club wants to save
money.
According to Tz (as captured by @iMiaSanMia), Bayern sees dire need to invest in its infrastructure:
A big part of the reason Bayern have been following some strict austerity measures and spending cuts when it comes to transfers in the past couple of years, is that they’ve been spending heavily on infrastructure. This strategy made it possible for the club to start the costly Säbener Straße renovation, acquire the Unterhaching Sportpark for the women’s team and also plan the construction of of a basketball performance centre at the FC Bayern Campus, which will also be used by the youth footballers, though the costs of the latter will be borne by the club (the registered association e.V.) – all investments that will bring additional revenues in the long run
President Herbert Hainer: “FC Bayern have always been known for being financially very sound. And we still have a bit of money sitting in our fixed deposit account. Everything we own, we have paid for ourselves – and it has all been paid off already.”
The Bavarians have put off the renovation at the Säbener Straße for multiple years to fund transfers, so this report does seem to have some merit. The renovation is now well and truly underway. This writer was there personally and saw half of the training pitches completely dug up and set to be worked on. The team on the pitch is looking strong and now the investments can be made off the pitch. The club is in a strong position at the moment.
