The Oregon men kicked off their spring season with a back-to-back home stand against UC Riverside Highlanders on Saturday and Sunday.
On Saturday a line up of Vlad Breazu, Pierre Mouesca, Matthew Burton,
Russell Soohoo, Declan Galligan, and Cameron Burton got off to a hot start by sweeping the doubles point 3-0. The first five singles matches were taken by the Ducks in straight sets. On court six Burton faced a challenge as Michael Chang sought to get Riverside on the board, splitting the first two sets 6-2, 3-6. Burton came back to take the third set 6-4 to complete the sweep.
On Sunday the Ducks shuffled their line up, inserting of Lachlan Robertson for Brezau and Daniel Hughes for Soohoo in the doubles line up. The new line up kept the sweep going to give the Ducks an early advantage. Soohoo returned for singles play but Will Semler stepped in for Galligan. The newcomers didn’t miss a beat, every Duck winning their singles match in straight sets to complete a dominant weekend sweep of the Highlanders.
The Oregon men will continue to refine their game over the non-conference slate in anticipation of Big Ten competition, hosting the Portland State Vikings at the Student Tennis Center on Thursday and Sunday, with the University of Portland Pilots sandwiched in between on Saturday. The women join in the action against Portland State on Friday and Idaho on Saturday.
