Newcastle United have confirmed a late pre-season friendly against Everton as Eddie Howe’s side should be hitting their early-season peak and gearing up for the start of the 2026-27 Premier League season then.
The Magpies announced the game on May 28, confirming they will travel to Edinburgh on Aug. 12.
“Edinburgh awaits,” Newcastle United announced. “We’ll be heading to the Iconic Scottish Gas Murrayfield Stadium on Wednesday August 12th to take on Everton as part of our pre-season campaign, stepping up preparations ahead of the 2026/27 Premier League season.”
The announcement gives Newcastle another confirmed fixture as they prepare for a major summer reset following a disappointing league campaign. Howe’s side finished 12th in the Premier League, missing out on Europe after entering the season with far higher expectations.
Newcastle still had strong moments in the cups and Europe, but the league campaign raised clear questions about squad depth, defensive consistency and recruitment. The Magpies will be without star winger Anthony Gordon, on his way to Barcelona, with several other players linked with moves and perhaps not in the squad anymore by the time this match arrives.
The Everton friendly will take place at Scottish Gas Murrayfield Stadium, one of the largest venues in the United Kingdom and the home of Scottish rugby.
Hosting the match in Edinburgh will also give Newcastle a chance to connect with supporters north of the border while using a large neutral venue for some of the final pre-season tweaks and preparations.
Newcastle’s full preseason plans are expected to include a European-based training camp along with further friendlies, and the Magpies’ first-team players are expected back in July, excluding those participating and getting deep into the 2026 World Cup.
