In the second match of the international break, Jürgen Klopp oversaw a 0-0 draw away to Greece, fielding mostly the same players who featured against Serbia in midweek alongside a few additions. The lineup, which featured numerous players under the age of 23, turned out to be the youngest starting XI Germany has fielded since Joachim Löw’s side in 2017.
The younger players, some of whom are already established first-team starters at the club level, completely outperformed the senior squad with their recent displays—a clear indictment of the veteran players. The “A team” showed they were still stuck in the Julian Nagelsmann era, while the “B team” gave German national team supporters exactly what they wanted to see, especially under Klopp’s management.
Heading into the November international break, Klopp now has a clearer picture of which players deserve a call-up as he continues to refine his Germany setup.
