The New York Giants made a series of moves on Thursday to bolster their depleted secondary. Those moves did not include the signing of controversial free-agent cornerback Terrion Arnold.
The Giants released two recently-signed cornerbacks. D.J. James, who missed Wednesday’s practice was waived/injured. David Long was also waived.
Both of those players were signed on August 5, just eight days ago.
In their place, the Giants signed defensive backs Ugochukwu Amadi and Sam Webb.
Amadi, 29, was a fourth-round
pick by the Seattle Seahawks in 2019. He has played in 85 regular-season games with 17 starts in a seven-year career with the Seahawks, Tennessee Titans, and New Orleans Saints. Amadi spent the last three seasons with New Orleans. He played in seven games last season.
Webb, 28, is a four-year veteran who has played for the Las Vegas Raiders (twice), Carolina Panthers, and Cleveland Browns. Webb signed with the Denver Broncos at the beginning of training camp, but was recently released.
The Giants have been beset by injuries at cornerback. Paulson Adebo, Greg Newsome, and Dru Phillips have all been missing practice.
