Real Madrid have started the new La Liga season with an attacking output the club has not produced in a decade.
Jose Mourinho’s side have scored 10 goals through their opening three league matches, the first time Real Madrid have reached double figures at this stage of a La Liga season since 2016-17.
Madrid opened the season with a 2-1 win over Espanyol before beating Real Sociedad 4-1 and Malaga 4-0 at the Santiago Bernabeu.
The last Madrid team to reach 10 goals after three games was Zinedine Zidane’s
2016-17 side. They started with a 3-0 victory over Real Sociedad, defeated Celta Vigo 2-1 and then put five past Osasuna to reach exactly 10 goals.
That season ultimately ended with Madrid winning both La Liga and the Champions League.
Mourinho’s team still has a long way to go before comparisons with that side carry much weight, but the early attacking numbers are encouraging.
