Bayern Munich brought a satisfying end to its fixture against Stuttgart in a 5-0 victory. The very first goal in the game was scored by none other than Konrad Laimer. Finding Michael Olise’s pass and making the subtlest of connections to score a beautiful goal, the Austrian believes it deserves a goal of the month award.
A flamboyant Goal of the month
The goal started off with a pinpoint long ball from Jonas Urbig to find Konrad Laimer. The right back had made his way highest up the pitch for Bayern, providing a passing option.
His wingman Michael Olise paired up to receive the ball allowing Laimer to run further into the box. This stretch of play turned dangerous in a moment’s notice due to the excellent chemistry of the right flank of Bayern. The quick short pass back from Olise was turned into the goal, through the keeper’s legs with a deft touch from the back of Laimer’s heel.
Speaking after the game to Sport1 (as captured by @iMiaSanMia), Konrad Laimer expressed his desire to win goal of the month. “You can all vote if you like. I haven’t won it yet. I’d definitely like to someday,” said Laimer.
Executive for sport at Bayern, Max Eberl revealed that he would be obliging Laimer’s wish. He said “He [Laimer] just asked me if I would vote for him for ‘Goal of the Month’. I guess I have to do it now.”
The perfect nickname
Footballers earn nicknames for a variety of reasons. However, it is a common trend to give names mimicking Brazilian or Latin American names when a player puts on a flashy piece of play. Laimer’s backheel goal too earns him a flashy nickname. After the game, Laimer was asked (by Sport1 via @iMiaSanMia) whether he preferred ‘Konradinho’ or ‘Laimerson’.
However, as you may already know by now Laimer came up with a reply as cheeky as his goal. ‘Alpine Zidane’ is what he prefers. Although Zidane is not from Latin America, his flair with the ball was second to none. With a turning backheel goal that resembled the roulettes of Zidane, Konny is spot on with this nickname.
