The 4-4 Carolina Panthers are still technically in the hunt for the playoffs, but hope is fading fast for a team that hasn’t been at or above .500 this late in the season since Week 8 of the 2021 season.
All eyes this week are on Bryce Young. Look out for today’s injury report to see if he was practicing or not, because another week of Andy Dalton feels like a guaranteed loss. Not that anybody is giving the Panthers a chance against the Packers, with or without the questionable talents of Young.
FanDuel is holding the Panthers as the second biggest underdogs of the week, behind only the New Orleans Saints at the Los Angeles Rams.
Week 9
Spread
Panthers: +12..5 (-110)
Packers: -12.5 (-110)
O/U
44.5 (-102/-120)
Moneyline
Panthers: +590
Packers: -850
Remember that home-field advantage is traditionally accounted for by spotting the home team—the Packers, in this case—three points on the spread. That would have Green Bay favored by just -9.5 on a neutral field.
The Panthers did anything but impress the nation on a big stage against the Buffalo Bills last week. Neither of their top two quarterbacks are striking fear into the hearts of opposing defensive coordinators and the Panthers are all but winless on the road. The New York Jets only count on a technicality.
We’re back into waiting for signs of life from this team. I expect to see them again this season, but I’m far from confident that it will be this week.
