The college football landscape has been changing rapidly over the last few years, with the ability for college athletes to earn money from their name, image, and likeness. It has given these players a significant advantage to stay in college longer, while previously, the best football players were trying to reach the NFL draft as quickly as possible. They couldn’t earn money in college, so getting drafted by an NFL team was their only shot at life-changing money.
This change has caused players to
enter the draft at an older age.
Cleveland Browns GMAndrew Berry has already begun rethinking his approach to older prospects and players who have transferred multiple times. It’s crucial that he remains open-minded and continues adapting as the landscape evolves. It will be important to stay flexible and handle each prospect on a case-by-case basis rather than following a strict system.
The Browns don’t have to totally overhaul their draft evaluation process or guardrails, but they do need to assess prospects with an understanding of how college football has changed.
Let me know what you think in the comments – Will Andrew Berry need to adjust the draft guardrails due to NIL?
