Week 8 of NFL action comes to a close this evening with a juicy-on-paper matchup between the Seattle Seahawks and Chicago Bears for Monday Night Football. It’s true that a disproportionate amount of primetime games this season have been NFC-exclusive affairs, far too many of them snoozefests featuring NFC East teams and matchups pitting losing teams against one another.
Tonight is different, thanks to what’s certain to be a playoff-hungry atmosphere in Seattle. The NFC West and NFC North are two of the
most competitive divisions in football, lest we forget the Seahawks are the current defending Super Bowl champions.
That said, things have not come easy for Seattle in 2026. Their current 4-3 record means that even with the team’s current second-place position in the NFC West, the Seahawks have little room for error from here on out with the .500 Los Angeles Rams bearing down on them.
Meanwhile, at 5-2, the Bears are technically in third place in the NFC North behind the 5-2 Detroit Lions and 6-1 Minnesota Vikings. Chicago has big plans in 2026 and beyond, and you can bet they have no interest in losing a key game on a national stage.
The Bears are a somewhat easy team to root for because they’ve endured a lot of mediocre in franchise history. Sure, there’s the ‘85 Bears and a season anyone alive to witness will never forget. However, when Sid Luck, Jim McMahon, and most recently Jay Cutler (seriously) stand as a franchise’s best quarterbacks, it’s easy to sympathize with any Bears fan’s struggle in the 21st century.
Caleb Williams seems ready to join Chicago’s short list of greatest quarterbacks. He very well may hold the top title with the Bears in a few years, if he continues ascending in ways similar to what quarterback Josh Allen found with the Buffalo Bills.
If you’re in this one for rooting interests, I’d stump again for the Bears. Since the Bills play the NFC North this season, the interest here is in giving Buffalo a tougher (i.e. teams with more wins) strength of schedule. The Seattle music scene helped shape who I am, and I love when broadcasts pay proper deep-cut homage through music bumpers. However, I’m not here for the Seahawks winning it all again this season. A loss tonight would help knock them down further in the playoff equation.
With that, here’s your open thread for Week 8 of Monday Night Football. As always, be kind to one another — and in all things… Go Bills!
