In recent years, Bayern Munich have honed in on the United States as an untapped market potentially filled with gold. First the club established a partnership with FC Dallas to send youngsters to train in Munich so the club could look at them closely, which brought Bayern the likes of Chris Richards, before that partnership was dissolved and Bayern established a partnership with Los Angeles FC, which also included sending youngsters to train in Munich.
In fact, Bayern have been welcoming youngsters
from the US to train in Munich from various clubs for many years now. And of all of them, the one who arguably made the biggest impression was Nimfasa Berchimas. The young American winger trained with Bayern all the way back in 2022 as a 14-year-old and, through several visits since, impressed the Bayern scouts. Still, Bayern could not bring Berchimas in as EU regulations forbid a transfer from the USA to Europe before a player’s 18th birthday. Instead, they have been keeping tabs on him for years.
Nearly four years after first impressing Bayern’s scouts Berchimas now nears his 18th birthday in February 2026. According to The Athletic, Bayern are now seizing the opportunity to sign the talented youngster:
Bayern Munich is in advanced talks to sign highly rated 17-year-old U.S. youth international winger Nimfasha Berchimas from Charlotte FC, sources briefed on the situation tell The Athletic.
A deal is has not yet been reached, but negotiations are close. The clubs don’t need to worry about Monday’s transfer window deadline in Germany, as the current framework is over a pre-agreed deal for the summer.
Berchimas has played in the last two U-17 World Cups, scoring four goals across eight appearances in the 2023 and 2025 tournaments. He has since progressed into the U.S. U-20 setup. Berchimas has made 45 appearances for Charlotte’s second team and three for the first team as he continues his development.
Several other European clubs are also after Berchimas, with Manchester United the biggest rival for the youngster’s signature. Berchimas even went to Manchester to train and impressed the club as well, but it looks as if he has chosen Munich over Manchester.
