Report reveals why Eberl sold Coman (Süddeutsche Zeitung via @iMiaSanMia)
According to a report from Süddeutsche Zeitung, the rumors of a lack of a formal plan and internal misalignment are only going to get bolstered, as Bayern Munich board member for sport Max Eberl surprised the club’s supervisory board by selling Kingsley Coman:
Within the club, it is said that Max Eberl didn’t need to sell Kingsley Coman. The supervisory board was surprised when Eberl came up with the idea of signing a replacement after Coman’s sale. The belief of the club’s bosses is that this candidate
(replacement) should have been presented as part of a comprehensive package before selling Coman, and not afterwards.
Eberl, for his part, sold the Frenchman because since taking office a year and a half ago, he’s been given instructions to reduce the squad and cut salaries. Eberl had expected that he would be allowed to reinvest the money in a replacement, but instead he was sent out into the transfer market with his hands tied behind his back looking for a loan player.
In many ways, selling Coman was a good idea, as shedding his salary and getting a fee in return will provide some financial flexibility for the future. However, that was all working under the assumption that Eberl would be able to backfill Coman’s spot on the roster.
That has proven to be difficult, especially given the “only loans” restriction set forth by the supervisory board, where Eberl can now only look at players available on a loan. Was that edict retaliation for the sale of Coman?
Though unlikely, at this point, you really cannot rule anything out.

Eberl makes light of loan-centric approach (@iMiaSanMia)
Bayern Munich board member for sport Max Eberl attempted to make light of his situation, where he is being tasked with only being able to bring in players on loan at his Thursday press conference.
The topic came up as Eberl was asked about the club’s failed pursuit of VfB Stuttgart attacker Nick Woltemade.
“So much was talked about during the transfer window. The current situation is that it’s off the table. No idea what will happen until September 1. Maybe Stuttgart will loan him to us,” Eberl said with a laugh. “We can sign him on loan. Maybe we can get creative.”
Clearly, Eberl recognized the insanity of the situation and did the best he could to grin and bear it.
BFW Fight Club: Rabiot on the move again? (Foot Mercato)
Adrien Rabiot is on his way out of Olympique Marseille:
Adrien Rabiot isn’t expected to stay at OM for long. Already courted by Serie A powerhouses like Inter Milan, Juventus, and AC Milan, where a certain Max Allegri, a coach with whom he is very close, works, the French international is also being tracked in Turkey.
In addition to the destinations revealed by us last night, Galatasaray is also mentioned . The Istanbul club have made Ilkay Gündogan their priority, but the Frenchman is a close second. According to our information, Al-Ittihad is also looking into this case. The Saudi club is coached by Laurent Blanc, who launched Rabiot’s first-team career with PSG.
So…why is Rabiot potentially leaving Marseille? Well, he got into a locker room fistfight with teammate Jonathan Rowe (via Yahoo):
With Jonathan Rowe reportedly close to Bologna and Adrien Rabiot wanted by several Serie A sides, more shocking details are emerging on the brawl that saw them kicked out of Olympique Marseille. The two players were involved in an altercation in the dressing room straight after the surprise Ligue 1 opening defeat of the season. A few days later, a formal statement confirmed the pair had both been put on the transfer market with immediate effect.
Rowe is reportedly on the verge of a move to Serie A for Bologna, while former Juventus midfielder Rabiot is linked with Inter, Milan, Roma, and even a potential return to Juve. However, Marseille director and former Udinese, Roma and Juventus defender Medhi Benatia revealed the sheer extent of the incident, which might give their new clubs pause for thought.
“We had hoped that giving the players 48 hours off would give them time to reflect, to reconsider, but instead there were no apologies,” Benatia told RMC Sport. “It was a locker room argument, we know these defeats can cause frustration. But there was physical aggression. It was a fight, let’s be honest, that’s the reality.
“Usually when there are words spoken, the coach comes in and speaks, it all calms down. Not here, it got into a physical confrontation, punches were thrown, Bakola felt unwell and fell to the ground, still they carried on. It was a scene of utter chaos. I’ve been in football 17-18 years, I’ve been a captain, sometimes you have heated exchanges, but you can’t have people punching each other in the face and security coming to separate you. Where are we? We’re here to play football. I’ve seen it all, but someone coming in and just punching him in the face. I’ve never seen that. This is not normal.”

Leipzig could get Nkunku on permanent deal (Sport Bild’s Christian Falk)
RB Leipzig could be willing to bring back Christopher Nkunku on a full transfer — not a loan. That little nugget could push Bayern Munich out of the running for the Chelsea attacker:
Bayern Munich could suffer a big blow in the race to sign Chelsea winger Christopher Nkunku in the summer transfer window. Chelsea are keen to sign (Xavi) Simons from Leipzig, who are in turn willing to re-sign their former player, Nkunku.
Christian Falk has told CFBayern that Leipzig could be willing to sign Nkunku permanently, provided Chelsea sign Simons for around £60m. According to a report from the Guardian, while a deal with Leipzig for Nkunku is not close, there is confidence that they will be able to come to an agreement with Chelsea on a fee for the France international.
Bayern have shown little willingness to submit a tempting offer, and it looks like Leipzig have an upper hand in the race for Nkunku.
However, Sky Germany’s Florian Plettenberg says that RB Leipzig will not be pursuing Nkunku on a full transfer:
🚨🔴 Leipzig’s position on Christopher #Nkunku has not changed. The interest is there, they admire him, and Leipzig remain in contact with Chelsea.
However, a permanent transfer is currently ruled out by RB – if anything, it would have to be a loan deal. #CFC
Chelsea’s stance remains clear: a permanent deal, or at the very least, an obligation to buy.
Weigl to Al-Shabab? (Sky Germany’s Florian Plettenberg)
Julian Weigl could be leaving Borussia Mönchengladbach in favor of a move to Al-Shabab FC:
🚨🇸🇦 Julian #Weigl would be allowed to leave Borussia Mönchengladbach before Deadline Day if a suitable top offer arrives.
Al-Shabab are pushing to sign Weigl, but so far there is no written offer – only verbal ones. Weigl is open to the move. His contract runs until 2028. @SkySportDE
