The Michigan Wolverines have already flipped a couple talented recruits in the 2026 recruiting class, and they are hoping to land a a couple more before signing day. The college football season is now in full swing, but there is still a lot to discuss in the recruiting world. Let’s get into it.
Michigan eyeing four-star ACC commit
Michigan has one of the best 2026 recruiting classes in the country right now, and the coaching staff is looking for ways to make it stronger. One guy the Wolverines are taking a closer look at 2026 four-star
defensive back Jay Timmons. He has been committed to Florida State since June, but Michigan has been communicating with him frequently, albeit in a different way than other programs that are still reaching out to him.
“(LaMar Morgan) said they recruit committed guys differently,” Timmons told On3’s Ethan McDowell ($). “[I] think they being patient.”
One thing that bodes well for Michigan is Timmons’ fandom. When he was a kid, he cheered for the Wolverines. And it sounds like there is a shot he makes his way to Ann Arbor for a game.
“Maybe, I did last fall,” Timmons said.
Securing a flip is never easy, but the coaching staff is working hard to get this one done.
Michigan hoping to flip three-star from MSU
Another player the Wolverines are currently eyeing is committed to Michigan State — 2026 three-star linebacker Braylon Hodge. He committed to Michigan State in June, but it sounds like he is still giving Michigan some thought after recently getting offered.
“Michigan is consistently a top program in the NCAA every year,” Hodge told Rivals’ Steve Wiltfong ($). “So having the opportunity to play there means so much to me.”
Michigan is going to get a visit from Hodge at some point, and he knows it is a big deal to get attention from a program like Michigan.
“It’s an honor to be noticed by a program like Michigan,” he said.
In addition to Michigan, Hodge also recently earned an offer from Texas, so the Longhorns will bring some stiff competition to this recruitment as well.
Four-star LB breaks down Michigan recruitment
Moving over to the 2027 class, one recruit that Michigan is a top contender for early on is four-star linebacker Isaiah Phelps.
“They just be blowing up my phone every day,” Phelps told On3’s McDowell ($). “I love that. That shows me they care for real. That’s great.”
Phelps hasn’t locked in a visit to Michigan yet, but he really wants to take in a game day at the Big House.
“I really love the atmosphere,” he said. “I love how many people come out to see those games. I was watching them ever since I was a kid.”
Arizona State, Oregon, USC and UCLA are some other teams to watch. At the end of the day, Phelps just wants to go to the best fit.
“It’s just the vibes,” he added. “I’d like to go to a school where I feel like I’ll just fit in well right here like, ‘These backers, they play just like me.’ I would love that.”
