Welcome to the Game Thread. Veterans of the Game Thread know how we do things around here, but for all you newbies we have a few rules. Our community guidelines apply and basically say be cool, no personal attacks, don’t troll and don’t swear too much.
The Spurs were definitely the better team last night, but they almost blew the game with some lackadaisical play last night late in the game as they allowed the overmatched Clippers to get within 4 points late in the game. The Spurs were able to get the win,
but the starters had a play a lot more minutes that optimal on the first night of a back to back, even though they have to face the lowly Kings, who became the first team in the Western Conference to be mathematically eliminated from the playoffs last week. The Kings have lost a lot of players to injury, but they have actually been playing their best basketball of the season recently, beating the Clippers and the Jazz on a back to back earlier this week. Need I say ‘trap game’?
Precious Achiuwa can score a lot of points, and DeMar DeRozan is still a master of the midrange, having just scored 41 on the Jazz a few day ago. At the time of writing, the injury report wasn’t out, but hopefully Luke Kornet can be back for tonight’s game, because Plumlee didn’t look good against the Clippers. This is a game the Spurs should win easily, but the Spurs are 1-1 against the Kings so far this season, and they need to win tonight to secure the season series. It would be great if the Spur could wrap this up early so that the starters can rest up for Thursday night’s game against the Suns, who could be a first round opponent for the Silver and Black in the playoffs. GO SPURS GOO!!
Personal note: I will be on vacation for a bit, but I’ll be back sometime around April Fool’s day. Game threads are going to be a little different while I’m gone, so talk among yourselves. Smoke ‘em if you got ‘em.
Game Prediction:
Carter Bryant will end up matched up on DeMar DeRozan, which will be fun to watch as they are completely different players at different ends of their careers.
