I don’t know about any of you, but I’ve talked more people about the Blue Jays today than ever in my life. I were my Jays’ jersey (my signed by Brett Lawrie one) and every person wanted to talk about yesterday’s
game. Even small children wanted to talk about it.
Sportsnet tell us that it was the most watched game in Blue Jays history.
- An average of 6 million people were watching.
- The peak was 8.3 million when Jeff Hoffman stuck out Julio Rodriguez.
- 1.9 million watched the pre-game show.
- 2.8 million saw Vlad Guerrero get presented with the MVP award.
One of five Canadians watched, at least, part of the game.
And, I’m sure you were the same, but I was getting txts from everyone I knew at the end of the game.
I could watch this over and over:
Shi Davidi talked to Jose Bautista about what George Springer did and felt:
“The only thing it takes is trying to do something right for your team,” Bautista, hoarse from celebrating Springer’s drive, said. “I heard him say that he was only trying to get the runner in from third. That’s exactly what I was thinking. And the baseball gods will reward you if you have a good approach, have a plan, know what you’re looking for. You keep it simple. You try to execute and that’s what he did. When you do that, sometimes you get a result better than what you expect, better than you hope for. And it was what we needed and he got us into the World Series.”
“He’s got a lifetime of happiness every time he comes back to Toronto,” said Bautista. “That’s a big home run in the franchise’s history. He deserves to enjoy it and the fans are going to love him for it.”
Jose knows what he’s talking about.
A lot has been said about ‘reliever familiarity’. That batters have a better time when they have faced a reliever recently (tho that didn’t help the Mariners against Jeff Hoffman yesterday). I think this is going to become another thing that managers have to consider when calling on a reliever.
Ernie Clement is having a terrific time of it in the playoffs so far. I tend to think it is unfair to choose one MVP in a series. Clement would have been a good choice. Springer, just for the one at bat,
It worked for Vlad, so now Auston Matthews is wearing a Vladimir Guerrero on his way into today’s game. I think this is great:
As it had the whole season, the back of the batting lineup did the job:
