Barcelona are currently negotiating new contracts for Eric Garcia and Frenkie de Jong, who are into the final year of their existing deals, but are yet to do the same for Andreas Christensen.
The Denmark international has said publicly he wants to stay and continue his career with the Catalan giants, but it remains to be seen if that will happen.
According to Marca, Barcelona will wait and see what happens over the next few months before making a final decision on Christensen’s future.
The report says
that Barca are generally happy with Christensen but do have some doubts when it comes to extending his contract.
Barca want to first decide on the make-up of their backline for next season, look at possible transfer options and see how Christensen performs after missing most of the previous campaign through injury.
His fitness record seems to be a big factor, understandably so, but if he can remain injury free and perform at a high level then it’s not ruled out he could be offered a new deal.
Christensen has made eight appearances so far in all competitions for Barcelona this season, and is currently with the Denmark squad where he shone in midweek in a big win over Belarus in World Cup qualifying.
