Leon Goretzka scored the goal to break the Bundesliga single season record for Bundesliga goals in a season by a team on Saturday against St Pauli. In a post match interview, he was asked about the record breaker but then was asked about Bayern’s upcoming Champions League match against Real Madrid.
Goretzka first had this to say to Sky Germany (as captured by @iMiaSanMia): “We’re playing well, we feel very good. It’s a big challenge. We put ourselves in a good situation with the first leg win, but
there’s still work to do on Wednesday.”
The reporter then asked him if he would like to start on Wednesday. His answer shows why Bayern fans will miss him: “Every player has the ambition to play. But Pavlo (Aleksandar Pavlović) was rested today and will be fresh. Everyone should be ready. I’ll be ready to help the team even off the bench or if it goes to extra time.”
Goretzka scored the record breaking goal in the 53rd minute to make it 2-0 and then assisted Olise’s goal 74 seconds later to make it 3-0. Bayern look to take this momentum back home to Allianz Arena for the second leg. A draw or better will put Bayern through to the semi-finals of the Champions League.
