Eagles’ Jalen Carter to wear cast on injured

Eagles defensive tackle Jalen Carter expects to wear a cast on his injured right wrist for Sunday’s Week 2 matchup against the Tennessee Titans. “Pretty much nothing. It’s just a cast,” Carter said, referring to what adjustments he’ll have to make in-game. “I’m still going to have to strike, grab, play the run and pass rush. That’s pretty much it. I can’t let it affect me.” Carter confirmed he sustained the injury against the Commanders last week while trying to punch the ball out of Terry McLaurin’s hands after a fourth-quarter reception. Carter was sidelined for Wednesday’s practice and was a limited participant Thursday. Carter wore the cast during Thursday’s session.

CAM WARD, QB: Titans quarterback Cam Ward finished 19-of-32 in Week 1 for 140 yards and a touchdown. A large portion of his production occurred via a garbage-time possession. Ward recorded 55 passing yards and his lone touchdown late in the fourth quarter once the Jets defense went into a late-game prevent shell. The All-22 tape review wasn’t kind to Ward’s performance. The offensive line was better than the broadcast angles indicated and receivers were creating consistent separation. Ward was hesitant, inefficient, occasionally inaccurate, and even bailed from clean pockets. The sophomore No. 1 overall quarterback needs to get better weekly.

And the downside to starting Fred Johnson [at left guard]: Johnson didn’t have a very good camp, even at his regular position at OT, while Kendall crushed it and seemed to have satisfied the Eagles’ staff and front office with his progression from Year 1 to Year 2. Kendall is a potential future starter, and Johnson probably is not. I mean, Kendall is just ready. Play him. Conclusion: I can’t recall the Eagles ever screwing around with practice reps to get the media to report it and create confusion for the upcoming opponent. To do that for the first time ahead of a matchup with one of the worst teams in the league would be a weird choice, even if the opponent’s best player is facing the position where the Eagles would be hoping to create confusion. Showing Johnson at LG in front of the media for the purposes of a ruse at the expense of reps for Kendall would be silly, in my opinion. The only thing that makes sense to me is that the team trusts Johnson over Willie Lampkin, who would theoretically be the next-next guy up on the interior. That is far more reasonable. And if so, they are rightfully getting him some reps at LG in case Kendall, Jurgens, or Steen go down.

That makes the Eagles look like the 1999 Rams. Ugh. There is a lot of blame to go around. Ward hasn’t shown signs of becoming the player they hoped for when drafted first overall. The OL has been a mess for a few years. They don’t have a great set of playmakers. And now Ward and his teammates are learning a new scheme. That’s not off to the greatest start, as you’ll see below.The Titans didn’t have a single play go for more than 14 yards. If you want to know what the Eagles offense would have looked like without the explosives, there you go. And it wasn’t pretty.
Eagles-Titans matchups to watch in Week 2 – NBCSP
Eagles interior OL vs. Jeffery Simmons. The Eagles will be without Landon Dickerson (knee) for at least the next four weeks. The good news is that Dickerson expects to be back after missing a month, but the bad news is that the Eagles will have to hold up against one of the best defensive tackles in the NFL without him. Jeffery Simmons is a four-time Pro Bowler and was an All-Pro in 2025 when he had a career-high 11 sacks and 21 QB hits. Simmons this offseason signed a three-year, $105.8 million contract that briefly made him the highest-paid defensive tackle in the NFL. It seems likely that the Eagles will start second-year lineman Drew Kendall in Dickerson’s place, but they have kept their plan close to the vest. No matter what the Eagles do on Sunday, they’ll have to provide some help wherever Simmons lines up. And it’s not just Simmons. The Titans this offseason brought in Jermaine Johnson and John Franklin-Myers, two players who have familiarity with Robert Saleh’s defense from their time together with the Jets. It’ll be fascinating to see how the Titans deploy Simmons. They can put him over the left guard but then that guarantees the center is going to slide that way. If they put him over the right guard, it forces the Eagles to make a decision. Do they help Tyler Steen with Simmons or do they help the weaker spot without Dickerson?

Why Jeremy picked the Eagles: A week after green-clad Yankees stormed Broadway, took over the bars and stadium, and cheered on a dominant win for the away side, Titans fans can expect the same again. Trade out Geno Smith and the Jets for Jalen Hurts and the Eagles, and Robert Saleh’s Titans have another rout on their hands if they’re not careful. No quarterbacks have been better on the road in September than Hurts and Patrick Mahomes (.800 on their careers), and the former is coming off a well-balanced season debut. Losing Landon Dickerson the week before Jeffery Simmons is on the docket isn’t a plus, but replacing the banged-up guard may be addition by subtraction. The even-greater mismatch could come on the other side of the ball, where the worst offense in the league since 2025 is going up against a Vic Fangio-led defense that has paced the NFL in opponent passer rating in the same span. In their last four meetings, Fangio’s Eagles have held Titans OC Brian Daboll’s offenses to a combined 70 points, with a 34-point Giants outburst last year the lone exception to the DC’s dominance in the battle. Wan’Dale Robinson and a mobile quarterback (Jaxson Dart) played key roles in flipping that token tie toward Daboll. Will Ward and Co. deliver a similar result? Makai Lemon used just four words when asked to sum up his first NFL game. “Lots to improve on,” Lemon said from his locker room stall Thursday. He’s not wrong. In the 24-22 win vs. the Commanders last Sunday, the Eagles’ first-round rookie wide receiver caught 3-of-4 targets for minus-5 yards. He did make a key block during Jalen Hurts’ crucial third-and-18 conversion in the fourth quarter, but it’s clear the 22-year-old is kicking himself due to his stat line. What does Lemon need to improve? “Route details,” Lemon said. “Just making sure I define my routes and assignments.” Lemon’s Week 1 showing comes after a forgettable offseason, during which he was injured for most of training camp. When he played in the preseason finale, he recorded just 3 yards on three catches, plus a drop that led to an interception. Lemon was brief when fielding questions on Thursday, but it’s clear he’s trying to keep a positive mindset.

The way it was explained to me, the large tailgate setups have grown even larger over the years, to the point where oversized vehicles are taking up anywhere from 8, to 12, to 16 spots. Josh Allen and the Buffalo Bills opened the new Highmark Stadium in style on Thursday night, with a 41-31 win over the visiting Detroit Lions on Thursday Night Football. The win propelled the Bills to a 2-0 start, and with a 36-31 victory over the Houston Texans and their vaunted defense in Week 1, Buffalo has put 77 points on the board in just two weeks. And in the process, Allen has made a strong, albeit early, case for his second MVP award. Allen was nearly flawless against the Lions defense, which has been hampered by injuries, on Thursday night. He completed 20-of-31 passes for 248 yards and three touchdowns, without an interception, and he added another 69 rushing yards and a pair of touchdowns. By doing so, Allen put himself back on one of the league’s smallest lists.
