Another member of the Penn State Nittany Lions basketball team is leaving for a different opportunity. With the exit of longtime Mike Rhoades assistant, and Penn State associate head coach, Jamal Brunt will join Gerry McNamara’s staff at Syracuse. Brunt had been with Rhoades for over ten years, having been a player under Rhoades in 1999-2003.
This now marks the fourth member of the team to leave (two players, two coaches) the program, in a season that can best be described as disastrous. While Brunt has a reputation of being a great defensive mind in coaching circles, Penn State’s overall defense left a lot to be desired in 2025-26.
The Nittany Lions will now look to replace both players and staff in the offseason, as they prepare for what will likely be a make or break season for Mike Rhoades. Stay tuned for more basketball updates as they come.
