Dayot Upamecano has become one of the world’s most prestigious defenders in the world. While initially inconsistent since moving from Leipzig, the French defender is playing as good as anyone right now. While plenty of credit has to be given to Bayern’s excellent central defensive duo, another kudos must be given to Manuel Neuer.
Upamecano is certainly grateful that he has one of the world’s best goalkeepers behind him. When asked about his German goalkeeper, the Frenchman gave the highest praise
one can give.
“Manu is a legend, not just in Germany, but also worldwide. When I was a kid, I already watched Manuel Neuer play, and now I’m playing alongside him. I am very grateful to be able to play with Manuel. It gives you confidence when you know that Manuel is behind you,” Upamecano said about fellow teammate Manuel Neuer as reported by SkySport via @iMiaSanMia.
Bayern Munich’s backline has certainly undergone some serious turbulence in recent years but perhaps the face off this defensive core for the last few seasons is Dayot Upamecano and Manuel Neuer. To play alongside a player you looked up to as a kid is a gift that is simply unthinkable for the majority of fans, but Neuer is certainly equally grateful to have Upamecano in defense making his job far more manageable.
While Jonas Urbig will be determined to cement his spot in the squad while Neuer is sidelined, this Bayern defense seems prepared to take on the world’s best for the first time in years.
