Newcastle United continues to monitor younger attacking players capable of developing under Matthias Jaissle, with another long-standing target reportedly remaining on the club’s radar in Portugal.
Brazilian journalist André Hernan reported that Newcastle has shown interest in FC Porto winger William Gomes, while the Portuguese club is now believed to value the 20-year-old between €60 million and €70 million amid Premier League attention.
“Newcastle showed interest in William Gomes,” Hernan reported,
with the Brazilian remaining at Porto despite that interest.
Gomes has since strengthened Porto’s negotiating position by extending his contract until June 2031. His release clause has also risen from €80 million to €100 million, while former club São Paulo retains 20% of his economic rights. The latest information suggests Porto could nevertheless consider proposals in the €60-70 million range rather than insist on the full release clause.
Earlier reports had repeatedly connected Newcastle with the Brazilian. A Bola reported that the Magpies were tracking him and that Porto would only consider a departure for a significant fee, while Diario AS previously claimed Newcastle had inquired about his situation.
There is no indication Newcastle has submitted an offer or entered formal negotiations, leaving the situation at the interest and monitoring stage for now.
Would Gomes be worth a €60-70 million investment for Newcastle, or should the club look elsewhere for its next winger? Share your thoughts in the comments.
