Only four weeks away from the playoffs now, and in week 13, some teams were already left out of the race for the postseason.
Let’s see how top teams are performing as well as their top goalscorers, and
who’s still in the race for the playoff spots.
Goals, goals, goals
Everybody likes to watch goals and if that’s what you’re looking for when you watch Liga MX Femenil, we recommend you watch Tigres, Pachuca, and Club América play. Why? Because they have set themselves apart from the rest of the teams in that department.
Tigres not only are at the top of the table but they also lead the goals department with 48 and they have the best defense of the tournament. In 13 games, teams have scored only seven goals on them (goal difference: 41).
What about Club América and Pachuca? The Eagles are third in the table and have tallied 45 goals so far this season, and they have 16 goals against (goal difference: 29). The reigning champions, on the other hand, have tallied 42 goals and 16 against (goal difference: 26). It’s incredible how out of those 42 tallies, more than a third have been scored by Charlyn Corral, who’s the league’s top goalscorer.
Besides of Corral leading the top goalscorers table, Tigres’ Jennifer Hermoso is among the best finishers with 13 tallies. Added to her, two of her teammates, Diana Ordóñez (10 goals) and Jheniffer Cordinali (6 goals), have been producing in the final third and in this way, Tigres has one of the best attacking tridents in the league.
Pumas falls, Cruz Azul rises?
While some teams are peaking at the right time, others are in what you might call a crisis. That’s the case of Pumas, a club that has lost its last four games.
We already discussed how Atlético de San Luis is the underdog this season and although they haven’t been consistent regarding results lately, they’re still among the teams qualifying for the playoffs. After two draws and one loss in their last three games, they went back to winning ways against Pumas. That put the Universitarias in a dangerous position once again – who thought that after the 4-0 win against Mazatlán, they had left that losing streak behind.
What’s next for them? Chivas de Guadalajara, a team that started the tournament slowly but now are fourth in the table and have a four-match winning streak, including the win against Club América.
Leaving Pumas aside, we have to talk about Cruz Azul briefly. Why? Well, because they have a five-game unbeaten streak while playing away at home. A draw against Chivas and Necaxa, a win against Mazatlán and Puebla, and a very important draw against Pachuca have helped them boost their confidence while on the road.
However, despite those good results, they’re 12th in the table because they still have to be able to get a win while playing at home. They’ll have the opportunity to do so next Saturday when they host Tijuana.
What’s next and what else?
Week 14 is an interesting one! We will have the match between Rayadas hosting Club América on Monday, a key game for both teams but mostly for Monterrey, who needs the points more than the Eagles. Also, now that they’re under a new coach, they need to keep building toward the end of the season after many poor performances.
Atlético de San Luis will have the chance to see what they’re made of when they face Tuzas on Sunday. After the reigning champions had to compete for the Concacaf W Champions Cup on Wednesday against the Costa Rican team Alajuelense, San Luis might want to take advantage of the players’ heavy legs after having fewer days to rest and keep cementing their position on the table.
Last but not least, we have to mention Club América besting the Orlando Pride for the Concacaf W Champions Cup. Kiana Palacios and Jana Gutiérrez scored on Tuesday to help her team to win the group and land on the competition semifinals.
