Harry Kane quelled talk of an imminent return to the English Premier League after Bayern Munich’s 4-0 win over Werder Bremen on Friday, citing his current contract status — two years remaining on a deal
that would take him to the end of the 2026/27 season.
And life in Bavaria, after all, is treating Kane very well.
“There’s no reason to panic. I think they’re happy with me, and I’m happy with them,” Kane said after the match, as captured by Ransport reporter Martin Volkmar (via @iMiaSanMia).
While Kane’s outrageous start to the Bundesliga campaign — 10 goals from five games, which puts him on a ludicrous pace for 68 goals this season for now — has turned the focus to Robert Lewandowski’s standing record for league goals (41), there is another one the English captain has long been said to have his eyes on: Alan Shearer’s Premier League career goals record.
But there will be time for that — if it even comes to it.
“That’s not really on my mind,” Kane added. “When I left England, I thought maybe I’d come back to achieve that [record]. But since I’ve been here, I’ve really enjoyed playing at this level.”
Playing for a club of Bayern’s caliber has its perks, after all.
Bayern Munich was the home side in the Bundesliga on Friday when Werder Bremen came to town.
The Bavarians decimated the visitors 4-0 in a game that was never really close. Bayern Munich was relentless and dominant in every aspect of the match. It is not as if Werder Bremen did not try, but the players just could not match up with the machine that was Bayern Munich.
Let’s get into all of the details — here is what we have on tap for this edition of the Bavarian Podcast Works — Postgame Show:
- A look at the starting XI — Tom Bischof and Leon Goretzka got the nod in the central midfield because Joshua Kimmich was sick.
- A rundown of the scoring and substitutions.
