Barcelona are due to hold presidential elections next year, with Joan Laporta having already confirmed he will run again.
Laporta returned to Barcelona as president in 2021, winning over 50% of the vote and seeing off the challenge of both Victor Font and Toni Freixa.
Much has changed since then, not least the traumatic departure of club legend Lionel Messi, who is said to have felt betrayed by Laporta after a contract renewal was agreed.
A new report now states that Messi could get involved in the
next election. It’s reported by Què t’hi Jugues! that the GOAT “hasn’t ruled out participating in some capacity.”
There’s no clear indication yet of what Messi might do, but the report adds “the player has considered making an explicit gesture ahead of the elections.”
It’s also claimed Messi “has been contacted by people within Barça’s circle, but not by Joan Laporta, the club’s current president” already with regards the elections.
Messi’s exit from Barcelona was a real low point, with the GOAT still yet to say a proper goodbye to the club and the fans that he loves the most.
He is expected to return to the city to live when he finally hangs up his boots, and it will be interesting to see if he does make any kind of gesture in the build-up to the next elections.
