It will not be hard for Pafos FC coach Juan Carlos Carcedo to sell his boys on a narrative ahead of their Champions League match against Bayern Munich on Tuesday.
“We’re now the ‘Cinderella’ of the competition. Probably no one is betting on us – and it might seem like we’re easy to beat. Bayern are currently the best performing team in Europe. Nevertheless, we won’t give up on the game before it starts. This will be a historic night for the entire city,” Carcedo told Bild am Sonntag (as captured by
@iMiaSanMia). “The fact that FC Bayern would one day visit us in the Champions League was completely unimaginable until recently – now we just want to enjoy it. We want to be bold at home. We can press sometimes, and we get our chances on the counterattack. We also work well on set pieces. Of course, everything will depend on what opportunities Bayern will offer us. But why shouldn’t we have a perfect day and maybe take a point or even more?”
Carcedo is well aware of where his team fits into the global football landscape, but that will not stop his squad from battling the mighty Bavarians.
“In Spain, we would probably be a top team in the second division or one fighting to avoid relegation in the first division. But we fight against any opponent and, on our good days, we can even be competitive in the Champions League,” Carcedo remarked.
Bayern Munich is cruising and heading into another Champions League, so let’s take a look at the factors that have powered the team so far.
Harry Kane has been a beast, the squad is driven, and — by and large — personnel decisions have worked out well. Let’s get into all of that and more on this edition of the Bavarian Podcast Works Show. This is what we have on tap:
- Why has Harry Kane been better than ever? (Less need for him to work in build-up, better complimentary players around him — losing Sane and Coman was massive, more aggressive attacking game plan and sometime more direct, truly the focal point
- Is it possible that Harry Kane will stay at Bayern Munich? He is not dismissing the possibility.
- Yes! We avoided a #BayernKaren situation. We are rejoicing this in Philadelphia.
- Tying up some loose ends — let’s check in on Leroy Sane, Kingsley Coman, João Palhinha, Paul Wanner, Mathys Tel, and Adam Aznou.
