The New Orleans Saints have plunged, rather quickly, from a promising 1-1 to a severely deflating 1-4 record for the 2026 regular season. Their Week 6 trip to the Big Apple to play the New York Giants is as pivotal as any, and here’s what either outcome could mean for the black and gold.
If the Saints win:
Call it coping, call it ridiculous, call it whatever you wish in the comments. The Saints remain in a relatively easy stretch of schedule, and Sunday could turn out to be the first step back to reclaiming a .500 record
by mid-November.
The Giants haven’t won, or in fact played against, a team that currently possesses a winning record. They were beaten handily by the Rams and squeezed by a bad Titans team. They pose no tougher a challenge than the black and gold have faced during their three-week winless home stretch.
New York’s running game has been poor, an area that has hurt the Saints in recent games. The defense imposing a continuation of that Giants trend could bode well if a New Orleans offense, which is still showing sporadic displays of explosive potential, can kick into gear on the other side of the ball.
Victory would stop the bleeding, bring a sigh of relief, and keep the door on the playoffs open for now.
If the Saints lose:
A fourth consecutive defeat would spell a borderline crisis. At some point, even with consideration for the injury concerns, something has to give. Either New Orleans finds a way to win football games, or changes will be made.
What that might look like remains to be seen, but coaches tend to be the easiest target in these circumstances.
At 1-5, it would be tough to envision a route to a division title for this team.
How are you feeling heading into Sunday’s game?
