Queensberry promoter Frank Warrent recently caught up with Fight Hub TV to get his take on a number of topics including Anthony Yarde’s upcoming title fight against David Benavidez tomorrow, as well as his thoughts on a few other notable fights on the horizon. Here’s some of what he had to say below.
Warren on Yarde’s upcoming title shot this weekend
“He’s got to win this one, it’ll probably be his last chance to get a crack at the title and it’s tough, tough fight for him. But I think it’ll be a tough fight for Benavidez as well because Anthony’s
a real competitor, he’s dangerous, he can punch, and even though Benavidez is 30-0, in this case he’s fighting a natural light heavyweight, a big fit light heavyweight and I think it’ll be an exciting fight while it lasts.”
On Norman vs Haney
“It’s an intriguing fight between the two of them and I can see why some people may say [they see a Norman stoppage win]. That last fight Haney…[Ramirez] wasn’t really at the races in that fight, was he. So we will see. He’s got to redeem himself as far as getting his credibility back and get back into winning again.”
Warren on Anthony Joshua vs Jake Paul
“I don’t particularly like it. No, I’m not going to say I do like it but people will watch it and I’ll probably watch it myself. It’s one of those car crash fights, isn’t it. On paper AJ’s a massive, massive favorite but Jake Paul — who everybody’s criticized over so many opponents he’s fought — is stepping up to the plate. He’s a cruiserweight going straight up to fight at heavyweight who was a former two-time world champion, Olympic gold medalist, and it’s a tough call. But it’ll do business.”
On if he has any worry that AJ’s fight against Paul could derail a potential future fight with Tyson Fury
“Well, I think you could look at the other side of it is that AJ fought Ngannou, didn’t he?…Listen, anything can happen in boxing but something big would have to happen for Jake to win that fight in my opinion.”
