It sure is nice to be discussing things like bowl projections this time of season.
With three straight wins, the Kentucky Wildcats have put themselves in a win-and-in scenario for bowl eligibility. They
play at Vanderbilt and Louisville in the season’s final two weeks.
National outlets have their updated bowl projections.
ESPN’s Kyle Bonagura and Mark Schlabach have the Cats playing the Cincinnati Bearcats in the Texas Bowl.Cincinnati is coming off a tough home loss to Arizona, but has a chance to finish the regular season 9-3 and contend for a 10-win season in whatever bowl game the Bearcats play in. It would also see former Louisville Cardinals head coach Scott Satterfield, now leading Cincinnati, get a shot to finally beat Kentucky after never doing so during his time in the Ville.
True fun fact, the Bearcats got their nickname from a game against the Wildcats in 1913. Cincinnati had a player with the last name “Behr” on their team. In a game against the Wildcats, a teammate famously proclaimed that “they may be the Wildcats, but we got a Behr cat on our side.” That’s how the name Bearcats was born.
Athlon Sports also has Kentucky playing Cincinnati in a bowl game, the Liberty Bowl in Memphis. Having been to the venue, it’s a really unique place to play in.
These last three weeks have brought excitement to a Kentucky program that deserves a lot of credit for turning its season around. However, they’ll need to take down Vanderbilt and/or Louisville to get 6+ wins to make the postseason and keep this positive momentum going.
