Our preseason top 10 player countdown has commenced with Nicholas Singleton taking the honor of #1. We wanted to offer some additional details of our staff vote. As a reminder, each staff member provided their own top 10 player ballot, with a first-place vote counting for 10 points, second-place for nine points, and so on.
Below is the full tally:
1. RB Nicholas Singleton (77) 2. DE Dani Dennis-Sutton (66) 3. QB Drew Allar (61) 4. RB Kaytron Allen (58) 5. CB A.J. Harris (41) 6. DT Zane Durant (40)
7. S Zakee Wheatley (35) 8. G Vega Ioane (23) 9. LB Tony Rojas (12) 10. TE Luke Reynolds/WR Trebor Pena (5) 12. OT Drew Shelton/CB Elliot Washington (4) 14. OL Anthony Donkoh (3) 15. TE Khalil Dinkins/OL Cooper Cousins (2) 17. LB Dom DeLuca/WR Devonte Ross (1)
Some interesting tidbits from the voting breakdown:
-Three Nittany Lions received first-place votes: Singleton (5), Dennis-Sutton (2) and Allar (1).
-Eleven offensive players received votes, compared to seven members of the defense who appeared on ballots.
-Pena and Ross are the only two newcommers on the list, joining A.J. Harris as the only players who joined Penn State via the transfer portal.
-Four offensive lineman received votes. In comparison, Penn State didn’t have four offensive lineman on the roster early in the Franklin era.
-A.J. Harris is the only player in the top eight who is not a senior or redshirt junior.
-Luke Reynolds and Cooper Cousins were the only true sophomores to make the list.
