The start to October for Texas Longhorns women’s sports was highlighted by two volleyball victories and a dramatic soccer win over the rival Oklahoma Sooners.

Review: Oct. 2-8
Texas volleyball: Longhorns win twice at home
Texas opened the month with a sweep of Mississippi State Oct. 2 before defeating Alabama in four sets two days later at Gregory Gym. Against the Bulldogs, the Longhorns took the match 25-16, 25-21, 25-19. Torrey
Stafford led Texas with 20 kills and 13 digs, while Henley Anderson added 12 kills.
Texas faced a tougher challenge in Alabama, winning 25-23, 23-25, 25-21, 25-22. Stafford finished with 18 kills. Cari Spears contributed 17 and Anderson added 13. Rella Binney recorded 40 assists.
The weekend brought multiple SEC weekly honors for Texas — Binney earned player and setter of the week recognition, Stafford was named co-offensive player of the week, and Anderson took home freshman of the week.
Texas soccer: Villarreal delivers in rivalry win
Texas rallied to defeat Oklahoma 2-1 at Mike A. Myers Stadium. After falling behind, the Longhorns broke through via Amalia Villarreal. She converted a penalty kick in the 68th minute before later scoring the winner.
Goalkeeper Bayliss Flynn recorded five saves as Texas held Oklahoma to one goal.
It was the 200th win for the Longhorns at Mike A. Myers Stadium as Texas rose in the rankings.
Texas cross country: Horns place sixth in Arkansas
Texas women’s cross country placed sixth in the Harter’s Habanero 5K at the Chile Pepper Festival on Oct. 3 in Fayetteville, Arkansas, finishing with 197 points.
Aishling Callanan led the Longhorns, placing 20th in 17:00.1. Mia Perez finished 29th in 17:16.0, while Lili Denton took 43rd in 17:36.4. Meanwhile, six of the seven Texas runners recorded personal-best 5K times.
The women are off this weekend before returning to competition later this month.
Week ahead: Oct. 9-15
11 a.m. Central, Friday, Oct. 9: Texas swimming and diving vs. Indiana and Northwestern
Texas returns to competition for a tri-meet against Indiana and Northwestern in Bloomington, Indiana. The event offers an early test against two Big Ten programs and another opportunity for the Longhorns to assess their depth across swimming and diving events.
6:30 p.m. Central, Friday, Oct. 9: Texas soccer at Kentucky on SEC Network+
Texas takes its momentum from the Oklahoma victory on the road for a matchup in Lexington. Villarreal’s recent scoring form will be one storyline to watch as the Longhorns continue their SEC schedule.
7 p.m. Central, Friday, Oct. 9: Volleyball at Arkansas on SEC Network+
Texas opens its road weekend at Barnhill Arena in Fayetteville against Arkansas after taking care of Mississippi State and Alabama at home. Stafford’s attacking production, Binney’s playmaking and Anderson’s recent performances give the Longhorns several offensive options to lean on.
2 p.m. Central, Sunday, Oct. 11: Texas volleyball at Oklahoma on SEC Network+
Texas closes its road weekend with a Red River matchup against the Sooners in Norman, Oklahoma. After Friday’s contest in Fayetteville, the Longhorns will face another conference opponent on a quick turnaround.
Oct. 8-12: Texas women’s tennis at ITA Regionals
The ITA Regionals give Texas players another opportunity to compete in fall individual play. Match times and opponents depend on the draw, so consult the official schedule and tournament results for the latest information.
8 a.m.-11 a.m. Central, Monday-Wednesday, Oct. 12-14: Texas women’s golf at St Andrews Links Collegiate on Golf Channel
Texas heads to Scotland for the St Andrews Links Collegiate, an international stop on the fall collegiate golf calendar. The event gives the Longhorns a chance to compete at the home of golf while continuing to build toward the spring championship season.
Monday, Oct. 12: Texas women’s tennis ITF Edmond W100 AND ITF Redding W35
The Edmond and Redding tournaments are listed on the official Texas women’s tennis schedule. Individual participation and match times should be checked against the tournament draws rather than assumed from the event listings alone.
7 p.m. Central, Thursday, Oct. 15: Soccer vs. LSU on SEC Network+
Texas returns home to face LSU after its road trip to Kentucky. The match closes the Oct. 9-15 window and gives the Longhorns another opportunity to pick up points in SEC play.
