As Abdullah Mason is set to make his next appearance this weekend on the undercard of David Benavidez vs Anthony Yarde in Riyadh, Mason talks a bit about what he’s expecting in his scheduled vacant WBO
lightweight title fight with Sam Noakes, as the winner will be in prime position to secure big fights going forward. Here’s some of what he had to say below.
Mason on what kind of fight he expects Noakes to bring
“It’s definitely going to be explosive. I think he’s going to come with everything he has but in the end I don’t think that’ll be enough for him to come out on top because I’m definitely going to be the one to leave the ring with them raising my hand and with the WBO world championship.”
On Noakes calling him untested
“Possibly, and same for him. And I’m the one who’s going to ace this test.”
On what fans can expect to see from him
“A lot of fun watching it, a lot of fun coming from my part. And hopefully they gain their new favorite fighter.”
On having his name thrown around with the likes of Keyshawn Davis
“There’s a lot of good fighters around my weight class but boxing’s going to determine exactly who I face in the future. Whoever is in front of me is who I’m willing to face. At one point we thought that he would be the next fight for me and you see what happened, it ended up being Sam Noakes. But whatever comes in the future I’ll be prepared to face.”
On a proposed Teofimo Lopez vs Shakur Stevenson fight
“I think that’s an amazing fight. Imagine if I ended up on that card. That’d be amazing, too. Right now I’m just focused on Sam Noakes but all these other fights they saying, I can’t wait to see those as well.”
