Our long national nightmare is over.
We waited eight long days after Labor Day without the Big East men’s basketball schedule, and now, here, on September 11th, the league office let the schedule out into the wild. We now know the dates for every single one of Marquette’s men’s basketball games for the 2025-26 season.
No television assignments or start times for anything here, but that’s fine. That just means we get to make another schedule
post later on.
Some quick takeaways:
- Marquette plays back-to-back home games just once all season. That comes on January 7th and January 10th when Xavier and Villanova come to town.
- Conversely, the Golden Eagles have two spots where they play back-to-back road games. It’s St. John/DePaul on January 13th and January 16th, then a month later, it’s Villanova/Xavier on February 10th and February 14th.
- Part of the Marquette press release on the schedule is confirming that National Marquette Day is Saturday, February 7th, against Butler. That’s an ever so slightly departure from a traditional schedule for it, as you can usually guess as to NMD’s timing by just looking at the last weekend home game of the year that’s not Senior Day. That honor belongs to DePaul on Sunday, March 1, but if you have a Saturday game that works, use that one instead. Saturday’s a better day when it comes to people traveling for the game/festivities.
- Marquette will play all 10 Big East foes this season before they play anyone a second time. That’s not usually the case, but I do think I like it better this way. Makes the schedule feel a bit more balanced.
- That balance also leads to an interesting quirk that favors Marquette, I think. Using BartTorvik.com’s projections for the upcoming season and considering anyone in the top 30 as a lock for the NCAA tournament….. Marquette won’t play a road game against the three locks in the Big East after visiting St. John’s on January 13th. They get all three against St. John’s, UConn, and Creighton on the road in the first seven games. They get St. John’s and UConn at home in the final five games of the regular season, and those two come on opposite ends of the final five games with at Georgetown, DePaul, and at Providence in the middle. We’ll have to wait and see how things go for everyone involved, but now, in September? That feels like a bit of a gift to Marquette on the off chance that they need to hammer down the edges of an at-large berth down the stretch.
- Marquette’s breaks in the schedule: 10 days for Christmas between December 20th and 30th, a week off between at Seton Hall and National Marquette Day, 6 days off between St. John’s at home & at Georgetown and then another immediate 5 days off before hosting DePaul.
