Newcastle United is already planning future transfer windows, with the club looking at younger options who can strengthen Matthias Jaissle’s squad over the longer term.
Strengthening the defense remains one area pending to be solved and under consideration as Newcastle continues reshaping its roster following last summer’s upheaval.
According to TEAMtalk’s Graeme Bailey, Newcastle looked at Real Sociedad full-back Jon Aramburu during the summer, with the 24-year-old attracting significant Premier League
interest. Among those interested are Manchester City, Liverpool, Tottenham Hotspur, Everton and Fulham.
Aramburu has established himself as one of La Liga’s more highly regarded full-backs, earning attention particularly for his one-on-one defending and operating primarily as a right-back. The Venezuela international can also operate on the left and offers attacking support when required.
“Tottenham, Newcastle United, Everton and Fulham also looked at Aramburu during the summer as interest in his services continued to grow,” Bailey reported.
Manchester City and Liverpool appear to have carried out more extensive checks. Bailey reported that City has assessed Aramburu while considering right-back options, while Liverpool has received “hugely positive” scouting reports on the defender.
According to TEAMtalk, acquiring Aramburu wouldn’t be cheap. His contract with Real Sociedad runs until 2030 and includes a release clause worth approximately £50 million, and the club has massive leverage in negotiations unless someone pays the clause outright.
There is no indication in Bailey’s report that Newcastle has made an offer or opened negotiations, but it establishes a certain scouting interest, with several other Premier League clubs currently tracking the player.
