Ryan Day and the Ohio State football team are seeing things really pick up with the summer months quickly coming to an end. Monday saw this year’s roster of Buckeyes arrive at the team hotel ahead of the preseason camp, meaning football officially is in the air in Columbus, Ohio.
This preseason camp will see the coaching staff working with the players to practice and prepare for the upcoming 2026-27 season, as well as determine important position battles. After failing to achieve all of the team goals
last season, coach Day and the Buckeyes will look to add more post-season success this year, including a deeper run in the College Football Playoffs.
With so much going on with the current group of Buckeyes, Ryan Day and the Ohio State coaching staff are still finding time for recruiting, something that never loses importance for the Buckeyes. This ongoing dedication and focus on recruiting led to Ohio State making the recruiting headlines Monday.
Ohio State 2027 four-star linebacker target Brayton Feister (Massillon, OH / Massillon Washington) announced he will be making his commitment this Friday on Aug. 14.
Alongside a commitment date, Feister also announced his final four teams consisting of Cal, Georgia, Oregon and Ohio State.
Ohio State has long been recruiting the Ohio native and being the homestate school, the Buckeyes always seemed to be true contenders in his recruitment. Especially given that Ryan Day and Ohio State have put even more importance on recruiting in-state prospects in the age of NIL and recruiting.
However, it is Oregon that appears to be the heavy favorites in this one.
The Ducks and head coach Dan Lanning have also long been recruiting Feister, including hosting him on his final official visit and presenting him with his first official scholarship offer to any school. Additionally, Feister never found his way to Ohio State for an official visit. He did take official visits with Georgia and Cal as well as Auburn.
While it certainly has seemed like Oregon’s recruitment to lose for sometime, there was a brief shakeup last month when he postponed his original commitment date in July. Ohio State has remained in constant communication with him, led by linebacker coach James Laurinaitis, and has shown recent success at developing talent at the position with Arvell Reese and Sonny Styles both being selected in the first round of the NFL Draft in April.
That being said, if the reason Feister moved his commitment date back, it was likely due to the work Georgia has been putting in with him recently. All of that being said, it is still Oregon that looks to be in the drivers seat for his recruitment and if he were to select any of his other finalists, it would come as a surprise to most.
If Fesiter were to spurn the Buckeyes in favor of Oregon, Ohio State’s 2027 recruiting class is still an impressive one. The class, which holds 19 verbal commitments, is ranked No. 7 by 247Sports and the Buckeyes do already hold a commitment from four-star LB Quinton Cypher. However, adding Feister alongside him would make for an excellent pairing.
Feister is the No. 9 ATH in the 247Sports Composite and he is the No. 133 national recruit. He is also the No. 7 recruit out of Ohio.
