Let’s try that one again.
The Philadelphia 76ers fell in spectacularly-Sixers fashion on Sunday evening in overtime to the Toronto Raptors on the road. In case you were watching another disappointing Philadelphia sports result, here’s how it went. With just 20 seconds left and a one-point lead, Tyrese Maxey hit a massive three to go up four points. Then, in the final 19 seconds that took about 10 minutes real time, the Raptors were allowed to tie it up and force overtime.
That was bad enough, but it
actually got way worse. With the game tied 115 all, the Raptors had the ball with six seconds left. With just 0.8 seconds left on the clock, Scottie Barnes drove into Kelly Oubre Jr., drawing a shove out of the latter and getting to go to the line with a chance to win the game. Barnes sank the first one to take the lead, then intentionally missed the second to drain the last 0.8 off the clock. Game over. Toronto wins.
Certainly felt like just one of those days in Philadelphia sports, huh?
The Sixers, though, don’t have to wait long to get another chance. The squad is back on the floor tonight in Toronto to again play the Raptors.
This being a back-to-back for both teams, we won’t have any official injury reports until this afternoon. We will bring you that information as it becomes available. With last night’s game going into overtime and a lot of guys playing a lot of minutes, it’s hard to know what exactly to expect from either squad for tonight.
That being said, Joel Embiid did not play in Sunday’s contest due to left knee injury management and groin soreness. That leaves the door open for Embiid to possibly play in tonight’s contest. Paul George was a very late scratch on Sunday, being ruled out after starting lineups were initially published, due to left knee soreness. Without a ton of information on that injury, his status is a bit harder to predict for Monday.
But, again, we will let you know when we know!
This game has some implications for the Eastern Conference, especially with the Raptors sitting No. 4 and the Sixers behind them in No. 5. If the Raptors win this game, they will have the tiebreaker over the Sixers. If Philadelphia wins, the series will be tied 2-2. With an East this close, those tiebreakers may prove to be extremely significant come the end of the regular season.
Here we go again. Sixers and Raptors tip off at 7:30 p.m.
Let’s hope today is a better day in Philadelphia sports…
